Popes and Cardinals

The cardinal pictured is a daily visitor to my mom's house. In fact, when I was staying over about a month ago, I awoke to this odd noise....thought it was a mouse. It was this cardinal flying into the window over and over again. Mom says he goes to different windows depending on what room she is in. My dad called the conservation office as this was happening daily...and EARLY in the morning. This cardinal did not know how to sleep in. The conservation officer said that he could put up a picture of a predator and that might scare the cardinal and keep him away. For some reason, the only picture dad had was of Pope Francis. Guess Popes scare cardinals as the cardinal has not been flying into the window lately.

New kitchen by HGTV

We got new a new kitchen floor, which I LOVE......it is a darker grey  stone-like tile.  But I didn't think the hunter green accents we had would go as well. My mom, queen of HGTV, suggested painting things. So the shelf, which was originally green and oak, is now a barn red and oak. Next, the baker's rack was hunter here.....but now it fits great after a lovely coat of black. But, the shining glory, is the kitchen table. The legs were green and the top oak. I painted the legs buttermilk with an antique medium rub after a little sand paper. The top looked so bad with chunks missing and hand writing and the finish peeling off. So Paul sanded, stained and finished the top. It looks brand new. Love my new kitchen.  Redid all three pieces and painted the walls for only $50, because we already had the stain and finish.

Crawfish & Shrimp Boil

Saw an advertisement for a crawfish and shrimp boil at a cajun restaurant we've been to before. Knew that was right up Paul's alley, so off we went. I got the shrimp, but he got the crawfish. I did try it, but can't say I really liked it. However, the shrimp was awesome, and no eyes!

Indiana.....Vera and baskets

In April, I visited Indiana twice for Vera and baskets. Firstu up, went to the Vera Bradley outlet sale with these three crazy gals on a 24 hour road trip.....arrived at hotel at 2:00 a.m. and back home by 6:00 that night. But what fun, especially as they had never been. And since it was my second time, I was a little calmer. Then it was back to Indiana for the Stateline Basket Retreat. Another bunch of crazy girls....so much laughter...good for the soul. First two baskets pictured and the wall basket were kits that I took and wove while Becky was in class. Took the larger basket with Eric Taylor and the small Pail Basket with Joni-Dee Ross. Loved her so much and learned so much, that I borrowed a mold and took supplies for two space-dyed 5" nantuckets. The taller one on the right was woven for my mom, for Mother's Day. It has natural spokes and space-dyed weavers. You weave the space-dyed cane with the backside to the outside of the basket if you want it brighter as the cane doesn't take the dye very strong on the shiny side. My 5" nantucket is the smaller one on the left wove with space-dyed spokes and space-dyed weavers; the vibrant spoke color is on the inside, but the vibrant color of the weaver is on the outside. My basket is about an inch shorter than mom's basket as I had a spoke break.

BOM caught up

Here is block 10 on the left, finally got the missing thread, and block 12 on the right. They are off a month, so block 11 will be next month. Love both of these blocks, but block 11 has a house and that will be fun.
