Abe, Trains and horseshoes...oh my

Road trip to Springfield, IL last weekend to visit the Lincoln Museum. We might have had ulterior motives in the food to be eaten, but the museum was the "cultural" part of the trip. We had visited Lincoln's house when the kids were little, but now there is a new museum that is really nice. Saw several nice movies, his cabin, and his house. Amazing how he went from a one room cabin to a lawyer with a large house to the White House.
Paul had some train spots in Springield that he wanted to check out.
And the main (don't tell) reason that we went, was so Paul and Caleb could go to D'Arcy's Pint to try the horseshoes. D'Arcy's isn't open on Sundays, and since we are usually passing through on our way home from Milwaukee on Sundays, they hadn't been yet. Horsehoes originated in Springfield. It is usually some type of meat on top of texas toast. Then it is covered in french fries and then cheese sause. YUMMY! Not a food for the upperclass, but we love it. To end the weekend, we had breakfast shoes at Sgt Peppers.....toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, covered in either gravy or cheese sauce.
Yes, we all survived and had a good time. We missed Chris with the different foods....he would have enjoyed it all.
